The
4th day of cycling the
Erie Canal started off pretty nicely, passing by a water tower at ~61 Auburn Street in Seneca Falls
before a visit to the
Montezuma National Wildlife Refuge,
where my friend hoped in vain to catch sight of a bald eagle.
From here, it was on to
Lock 25 in the town of Savannah,
then over the
Seneca River at 460 Route 31 in Montezuma,
to the village of Port Byron in the town of Mentz

After the rest stop, it was on to the Howard Finley Memorial Bridge at West Brutus Street and Erie Drive in the village of Weedsport in the town of Brutus,

where we passed by a waterfall at Skaneateles Creek at ~3 Mechanic Street.
We also passed by the exact halfway point of the first Enlarged Erie Canal in Camillus on the way to
Sim's Store and Museum (Camilluse Erie Canal Park) in town, where we stopped to see the exhibits here for a bit and get some food as well.
There is a boat ride here one can take to go view the
Nine Mile Creek Aqueduct,
but we decided to cycle to it instead.
We proceeded onward, passing the village of Solvay in the town of Geddes

on our way to Syracuse,
where our campsite was to be on top of the hill at
Burnet Park.
The views from here of the surroundings are pretty good.
After setting up our tent, we took the shuttle into downtown Syracuse, which dropped us off in front of the
Museum of Science and Technology,
where we saw our first of many fiberglass horses in the city as part of Horses on Parade.
The
24 second Shot Clock was right nearby,
and we passed several more places

University of Syracuse.
From here we headed to the Marshall Street area
to grab some food to eat, going to
Funk 'N Waffles first.
A pretty funky setting, with very interesting savory pancakes as well. I
got the Mackinac (spinach & mozzarella stuffed waffle w/ smoked turkey & a side of sour cream) waffle,
while my friend got the Bacon, Brie, Basil (topped buttermilk w/ marmalade) waffle, both in half portions.
I have to say both waffles were simply awesome, the sour cream going really well with the rest of the ingredients, and the apricot marmalade complementing the bacon perfectly.
We were almost prepared to order more, but we decided to check out other restaurants in the area instead, heading to
King David's Restaurant, a Mediterranean place nearby. Not so fancy here, but the Eggplant Fries I got were something different if not excellent,
while the Falafel
(Vegetable patties prepared from chick peas, parsley, onions and spices. Served with lettuce, tomato, cucumber and tahini) I got
and the Gyro (Strips of gyro meat served with lettuce, tomato, onion and tzatziki sauce) my friend got were not too bad either.
We were so full by now that our plans to go back for more waffles were dashed, and we headed back downtown to catch the bus, passing a few places

before reaching our destination, where the bus was just coming down the road when we arrived. What luck!
Back at camp, I decided to go check out the Rosamond Gifford Zoo, which was where dinner had been prepared for us. I had to enter by a side entrance as the zoo was already closed at this time, but I was still able to see some of the animals here in the areas which were not closed off.
With that, I called it a day and headed back to camp. 4 more days to go!!
