We started off this morning at
Easton's Beach, a pretty nice beach with fine sand in Newport RI.
Parking our first car here, we headed to the other end of the
Cliff Walk at
Reject's Beach with our second car and parked near there, not knowing it was illegal to do so.
We commenced our cliff walk, taking several pictures along the way back to Easton's Beach,
and of the various historic mansions as well.
After finally reaching the end of the walk, we headed to lunch at
The Chanler at Cliff Walk hotel,
eating at the
Spiced Pear Restaurant.
We got the Hawaiian (pineapple, mozzarella, prosciutto, pickled jalapeno) Pizza,
the Lobster Mac and Cheese (lobster, vermont cheddar),
the Lobster Bisque,
the Surf and Turf Sandwich
and the Fish Tacos (tempura fried day boat cod, avocado creme fraiche, pico de gallo, aged vermont cheddar, wasabi coleslaw).
The pizza was just alright, while the soup was way too salty for my liking. The fish tacos were alright as well, the coleslaw being pretty bitter, although the sandwich was pretty good. The mac and cheese was the best dish, surprisingly, being very creamy and flavorful.
From here, we went to see how far we could venture in visiting the various mansions, not getting very far with the Breakers,
but being able to walk on the grounds of
Rosecliff without anyone asking for our tickets.
We got to the spot where the second car was supposed to be, only to realize it had been towed away. After finally getting it back, we went for a snack at the
Newport Lobster Shack, a somewhat makeshift place by the wharf, getting the Lobster Strips (strip from lobster tail, lightly coated and fried).
Pretty tasty and fresh.
Next, we walked along the downtown area for a bit,
|
Perotti Park, 39 America's Cup Avenue |
|
Trinity Park, 3 Church Street |
getting some Macaroons from the
Cookie Jar
and Kangaroo Jerky from the
Newport Jerky Company
before heading over to
Goat Island for a bit.
Dinner was at
Thai Cuisine in town,
where we got the Mango Fresh Roll (Fresh mango wrapped in cone shaped thin rice paper with vegetables, mint leaves, carrots, vermicelli. Complemented by sweet and sour peanut sauce.),
the Beef Noodles Soup (Country style noodles soup, accented with aromatic basil, bean sprouts, spinach and tender beef.),
the Classic Salmon (Grilled salmon filet stir fried with assorted fresh vegetables in our house special sauce),
the Chicken Pan Fried Teriyaki (Marinated meat sauteed with teriyaki sauce, assorted vegetables and roasted sesame) and the Paradise Shrimp (Sauteed large shrimp in hot chili sauce, mushrooms, celery, green peppers topped with roasted cashew nuts).
Everything was just so-so, with nothing feeling very Thai. With that, our visit to Newport RI was officially at an end for today.
